Project context

A landscape shaped by its purpose.

Tyning Meadows is a ten-home residential development by Bath-based housebuilder Charlcombe Homes. The architecture and landscape sit against the surrounding Bathampton countryside.

The driveways and shared access needed a natural gravel character without leaving loose stone uncontrolled across everyday vehicle routes. The same surface language was repeated across 2,100 m² of the development.

The brief

What the project had to achieve.

Create a stable gravel finish across a substantial multi-property development while complementing the rural Bathampton setting and supporting everyday vehicle access and parking.

  1. 01

    Rural character

The driveway finish needed to complement the countryside setting and the individual homes.

  2. 02

    Everyday traffic

The shared access and drives needed a controlled surface under regular residential vehicle movement.

  3. 03

    Consistent installation

One repeatable gravel system was required across ten properties and 2,100 m².

  4. 04

    Permeable surface

Rainfall needed to pass through the gravel and supporting surface layer.

The CORE solution

Selected around the site—not just the surface.

CORE DRIVE panels were installed throughout 2,100 m² of driveways and accessways, then filled and covered with selected decorative aggregate.

CORE DRIVE panels were laid across the prepared access and driveway construction. Decorative aggregate was filled into and placed over the cells to conceal the grid.

The honeycomb structure confines the stone, while the heat-welded geotextile backing closes the underside of the cells and helps separate the surface from the bedding layer.

The same system was repeated across the ten homes, giving the development a consistent gravel finish from plot to plot.

The result

The completed development uses a consistent, permeable gravel surface across ten homes, with the cellular grid largely concealed below the aggregate.

Project outcomes

  • A consistent stabilised gravel finish across ten homes
  • Cellular confinement intended to reduce loose-stone migration
  • The filled grid remains largely hidden beneath the decorative aggregate
  • A permeable surface suited to the development’s landscape character
