Residential development
Conservation-area setting
Completed surface
A landscape shaped by its purpose.
Sussex Court is a 30-home Linden Homes North development off Cornwall Road in Harrogate, within a conservation area of the Duchy of Lancaster Estate.
Caddick Construction needed a gravel surface that could remain visually appropriate beside the scheme’s stonework and planting while controlling migration across vehicle approaches, turning areas and driveways.
What the project had to achieve.
Create a consistent, practical gravel finish for regular vehicle use across multiple plots while respecting the stonework, planting and conservation-area character of the Duchy of Lancaster Estate.
- 01
Regular vehicle use
The finished drives and access areas needed to remain controlled under everyday traffic, turning and braking.
- 02
Natural appearance
The grid had to sit below the selected decorative aggregate and preserve the intended gravel character.
- 03
Consistent finish
A repeatable gravel treatment was required across 4,600 m² and multiple homes.
- 04
Permeable finish
The surface layer needed to allow rainfall into the supporting drainage construction.

Selected around the site—not just the surface.
CORE DRIVE was laid over the prepared supporting construction, filled with the selected decorative aggregate and used across 4,600 m² of driveways and access areas.
CORE DRIVE panels were installed across the prepared drive and access formations, then filled and covered with the selected decorative aggregate.
The cellular grid confines the stone and helps reduce migration, spreading and rutting, while its attached permeable geotextile closes the underside of the cells.
The membrane-backed grid remains concealed beneath the gravel, leaving a natural-looking surface across the development.
