Woven and nonwoven geotextiles

CORE GEOTEXTILES

Six clearly defined geotextile grades for separation, filtration, protection, reinforcement and high-visibility interfaces.

Selection principle

Choose by function,
not colour or weight.

Woven and nonwoven geotextiles are made differently and are not automatically interchangeable. Start with the mechanism required by the build-up, then confirm strength, puncture, opening size, permeability and installation conditions.

01 · Woven

Separation with tensile contribution.

Interlaced polypropylene tapes provide lower elongation and a stronger tensile response. Compare FasTrack where granular separation and reinforcement are the primary functions.

  • Haul roads and compounds
  • Paved roads and hardstandings
  • Basal separation and reinforcement
02 · Nonwoven

Filtration, drainage and protection.

A permeable fibrous structure passes water while retaining soil particles. Compare TerraTrack and MultiTrack where hydraulic performance, filtration or cushioning is important.

  • Drainage and soakaways
  • Permeable paving
  • Membrane protection
Declared performance

Compare the range.

Values are transcribed from the current manufacturer product information and must be checked against the exact supplied grade and current Declaration of Performance before specification.

MD = machine direction. CMD = cross-machine direction. A lower dynamic-perforation result means a smaller cone-drop hole; compare the declared characteristic and intended function rather than reading one value in isolation.

Installation principles

Protect the fabric
through construction.

These are general manufacturer principles, not a project-specific method statement. Overlaps, cover, aggregate and construction traffic may need to change with the formation and application.

01

Store and protect

Keep rolls securely stacked and wrapped until required. Protect the fabric from damage and unnecessary exposure.

02

Prepare the subgrade

Remove shrubs, large rocks and similar obstructions. Fill deep ruts, voids and depressions to provide a smooth support.

03

Roll out to the contours

Keep the textile taut enough to minimise folds, but do not stretch it so that it bridges hollows. Temporary ballast may be needed in wind.

04

Maintain continuity

General manufacturer guidance is at least 300 mm overlap side by side and 600 mm end to end. Increase overlaps on soft or uneven ground.

05

Place cover fill safely

Do not traffic directly on exposed geotextile. End-tip onto the edge or already placed fill, then spread using suitable tracked plant.

06

Cover, inspect and repair

Provide at least 150 mm cover before trafficking or compaction. Repair damage with the same textile extending at least 1,000 mm beyond the affected area in every direction.

Send the application, build-up, ground information and quantities you have. CORE will help identify whether the project needs woven separation or reinforcement, nonwoven filtration or a more robust protection layer.
