Path corridor
A landscape shaped by its purpose.
Twickenham Gateway combined a new station, public plaza, retail space and 121 homes with a pedestrian and cycle connection beside the River Crane. Osborne delivered the Solum Regeneration scheme around a live railway.
The path corridor was narrow, vegetated and geometrically varied. The build-up therefore needed to follow curves and gradients while creating a stable surface and limiting conventional deep excavation.
What the project had to achieve.
Form a durable pedestrian and cycle route through a narrow vegetated corridor between an operational railway and the River Crane, while reducing deep excavation around established vegetation.
- 01
Constrained alignment
The route needed to fit between an operational railway, established vegetation and the watercourse.
- 02
Curves and gradients
The formation had to follow a changing path geometry rather than a simple straight run.
- 03
Load distribution
A continuous supporting layer was required beneath the pedestrian and cycle surface.
- 04
Porous construction
Free-draining granular material was used around the retained vegetation.

Selected around the site—not just the surface.
Approximately 1,200 m² of 50 mm CORE TRP was installed over the prepared formation and followed the changing alignment, with CORE COMMERCIAL used above to stabilise the finished path.
50 mm CORE TRP was laid over the prepared formation, cut to the route geometry and filled with free-draining aggregate.
CORE COMMERCIAL formed the overlay, helping to stabilise the path surface while the TRP layer distributed loads through the granular construction.
