Adjustable steel edging
A landscape shaped by its purpose.
Garden designer Kate Mason presented The Hierarchy of Plants at RHS Malvern Spring Festival 2025. The installation combined detailed planting, constructed paths and precisely controlled landscape borders.
A show build brings a compressed programme and changing on-site conditions. The edging needed to establish consistent levels on uneven ground, follow bespoke geometry and remain suitable for removal after the event.
What the project had to achieve.
Establish accurate lines and levels across uneven show ground within a short installation window, while allowing on-site design adjustments and later dismantling.
- 01
Short programme
The border system needed to be installed and adjusted within a tightly controlled show-garden build.
- 02
Uneven ground
Accurate finished levels had to be established without extensive preparatory groundworks.
- 03
Bespoke geometry
The steel profiles needed to respond to the garden’s detailed path and planting layout.
- 04
Temporary installation
Components needed to be robust enough for dismantling and potential reuse after the show.

Selected around the site—not just the surface.
CORE DATUM EDGE steel sections were adjusted, shaped and joined to create continuous borders around the bespoke planting and path layout.
CORE DATUM EDGE used its rear joining and DatumLock adjustment to establish a controlled top line across the show plot.
The steel sections were flexed and aligned to the bespoke layout, creating clean continuous borders between planting and hard-landscape elements.
After the show, the Corten sections were repurposed for a new setting, extending their life beyond the temporary installation.
