Project completion
A landscape shaped by its purpose.
The 2022 redevelopment created an accessible new hub within Lucy Cavendish College, providing 72 en-suite bedrooms with cafe, dining, social and teaching space.
Landscaped routes reconnect the building with the existing gardens. Mullan Groundworks installed the CORE PRO EDGE, while SDC Builders delivered the wider project to R H Partnership Architects’ design.
What the project had to achieve.
Define durable, accessible paths and planted interfaces within a conservation-area campus using an edge that could form both straight runs and controlled curves.
- 01
Accessible routes
Clear and consistent path interfaces were needed around the new college hub.
- 02
Conservation setting
The edging needed to remain discreet beside brick, timber and planting.
- 03
Curves and straights
One profile family had to resolve the courtyard geometry.
- 04
Low-maintenance material
An anodised rust-free edge was preferred for external durability.

Selected around the site—not just the surface.
Mullan Groundworks aligned, joined and secured 792 metres of CORE PRO EDGE 100 mm before the adjoining resin-bound paths were completed over their macadam base.
CORE PRO EDGE 100 mm in 6063A anodised aluminium was aligned to the design geometry and joined using rear connector strips.
The profiles were secured with 150 mm galvanised spiral pins before the resin-bound paths were laid over the macadam base, creating a controlled edge without a visually intrusive front connection.

Crisp anodised-aluminium boundaries now define the paths and planting while remaining visually secondary to the brick, timber and landscaped setting.
